Public service ministry pays out Sh11 billion to ‘ghost’ pensioners

In 2012/13 officials in the Public service and Finance ministries, the Bank of Uganda and one foreign-owned commercial bank colluded to spirit Shs165 billion from the public coffer. They succeeded by creating thousands of ghost pensioners. The suspect’s invested much of the money in real estate
The Public service ministry has over the last twelve months paid out Shs11 billion to pensioners whose existence the Auditor General John Muwanga is questioning.
Further, the ministry also made multiple payments to some pensioners who had already received their monthly dues. On this, public service doled Shs1 billion.
