Gang-rape of UPDF soldiers victim weeps in court

A woman who was allegedly gang-raped by UPDF soldiers collapsed on Friday, as she testified before the 3rd Division Court Martial sitting near her home in Tapac sub-county in Moroto district.

Teddy Nakiru, 35, was allegedly raped by soldiers on a night patrol during the celebrations to mark the New Year.

Army defence lawyer Capt. Dan Keith Madaba during a cross-examination that lasted four hours tasked Nakiru to explain what happened.

However, towards the end of the examination, she collapsed and broke into tears as she protested against the question she was being asked.

“You cannot ask those questions when soldiers who raped me are here,” she said amid tears.

Paraded before court were Pte. James Manana, Cpl. Corporal Kakulu Machat and another soldier identified as Pte. Nello Okullu Oyo (A3).

The packed court was left in murmurs as the victim shed tears and grumbled in Ng’akarimojong.
